Ali Ha is a Brooklyn-based artist who blends sewing and storytelling in narrative fabric works, drawing on a family heritage of women quilters. After art school at Syracuse University, Ha arrived in New York City in 2000, first making movable, interactive fabric sculptures shown in Lower East Side galleries and restaurants before shifting to flat sewn pieces stitched from fabric scraps that range from two to seven and a half feet wide. Ha also founded and ran two galleries, Orchard Street Art Gallery on the Lower East Side (2002-2007) and Factory Fresh in Brooklyn (2008-2012), and made street art under the name Pufferella from 2002 to 2015. Now working from a studio in a former rope factory in Greenpoint, Ha took up oil painting on canvas in 2023 and has shown in group exhibitions including at Van Der Plas Gallery, as well as participating in Greenpoint Open Studios.
