Amanda Gale is a ceramic artist working under the name Ambivalent Workshop from Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Her practice centers on hand-built, kiln-fired, and glazed stoneware formed into tiny, one-of-a-kind sculptures and wearable pieces, including miniature chairs sized for a necklace and small functional cups. Gale spent years earlier in her career building large-scale sculpture and installation work, including welding and fabrication, before shifting toward this smaller, more intimate scale of object-making. She describes the resulting pieces as accessible, functional sculpture, and each is made individually by hand. Gale lives and works primarily in Brooklyn, with additional time spent working in the Catskills.

Amanda Gale spent a lot of years creating and installing big sculptures, craftwork, welding, and other fabrications. She's now relatively content creating much smaller things (aside from her rapidly growing children). She lives and works mostly in Brooklyn and occasionally in the Catskills…just like all those other artists.
