Ceramics / PotteryI make small batch ceramics, both hand built and wheel thrown. Working in NYC allows for a unique opportunity to collaborate with innovative chefs and designers. I aspire to meet these functional needs with forms that enhance and and inform the context of their use.
I started my Brooklyn based business, making small batch ceramics, both hand built and thrown on the wheel, in 2011. I focus on constructing functional forms, inspired by the environment or context in which I live, which means I can find just as much inspiration from nature as a pile of nails at the side of the road. Yeah, I'm that guy. Living in Brooklyn has afforded me the opportunity to work with incredibly talented chefs and restaurateurs. I enjoy the process of absorbing their vision, and then puzzling out the best functional display to reflect it. I also find a lot of pleasure in repetition as a deliberate practice, I'm going to lean on Plato for this one. "Excellence" is not a gift, but a skill that takes practice." Sure, he was talking about virtue, but I find strength in that idea when I'm staring down the barrel of a large order.
