Glenda F. Hydler is a Brooklyn-based artist working across painting, mixed media, photography, performance, and book art. She holds an MFA from the City University of New York, a BA in English from California State University, Northridge, and a BFA from the School of Visual Arts. Early in her career she produced more than a hundred one-of-a-kind photo-text artist's books exploring interpersonal and social relationships; a selection was exhibited at the 112 Workshop, the storied SoHo alternative space, in 1976, and examples are held in the collections of Harvard's Schlesinger Library and the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Her current series, "Strategies of Containment," uses hard-edged, squeegee-applied lines on monochromatic surfaces to explore tension between abstract form and emotional content.
