Isaac "Drift" Wright is a multidisciplinary artist and a United States Army veteran. After serving his country, he found solace and purpose in urban exploring and photography, illegally and clandestinely capturing cities from unique and unseen perspectives. Through his lens, he found a way towards what he refers to as “The greater work of life”, the work of presence and self-actualization. In 2020, Drift’s artistic passion and dedication to documenting the world around him led to his arrest, a heart-wrenching experience that resulted in four months of incarceration without bond. The government weaponized numerous factors including his military background against him, making his story a national headline, which landed on the front page of The New York Times on June 6th, 2021. Despite the adversity he faced, Drift’s work has since flourished. He has become one of the most sought-after photographers in the industry, emerging in the fine arts world and as a pioneer in photography. He has been featured in Rolling Stone, TIME, The New York Times, and many other notable publications. Beyond photography, his work navigates the intersections of performance art, self-authorization and mass surveillance, centering on the reclamation of bodily agency. Blurring the boundaries between reality and the surreal, he crafts imagery that challenges perception, inviting viewers into a world at the edge of the imaginable.” Drift’s photography embodies the true essence of fine art, merging captivating visuals with a deep sense of emotion and purpose. I've come to realize each is a snapshot not just of the world but of who I was at that point in time. They are living, breathing documentations of change, including the changes that have been brought forth in myself. His work explores themes of self-authorization in the face of mass surveillance, race and the reclamation of bodily agency and surrealism, creating imagery on the absolute fringes of reality in an everlasting deeper dive into the divine.
