Julia Rothman is a Brooklyn-based illustrator and author whose work has appeared on wallpaper, textiles, dishware, and packaging as well as in editorial and advertising contexts. She has written and illustrated more than seventeen books, including a series of illustrated "Anatomy" guides covering subjects such as farms, nature, and food. For several years she produced an illustrated New York Times column called Scratch, created with Shaina Feinberg, profiling small businesses, and her illustrations have also appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Vogue, and The Wall Street Journal. She co-founded Women Who Draw, a directory promoting visibility for female illustrators, and founded The Figure Assembly, a Brooklyn studio hosting figure-drawing sessions. She works from a studio in Gowanus, Brooklyn.
