Maria Conrad

Painting

Brooklyn Public Library Sunday, May 31 from 1:30-4:30pm Maria Conrad: A Tribute Maria Conrad (1954, Poland – 2026, New York) lived most of her life in New York after arriving as a child with her parents aboard the Batory. She was part of the Polish community in Brooklyn, active in senior centers including the Krakus Senior Center and JASA Williamsburg Older Adults Center, and participated in the Greenpoint Library portrait project You Can Carry Your Landscape With You, developed through the BPL Heritage Ambassadors Program and SU-CASA, BAC Program. This presentation honors her life and brings together a selection of her paintings alongside works from the project, curated by Asia Sztencel.

Sztencel believes the role of the artist requires a respectful approach and sensitivity towards the community. Through conceptual practice and traditional craft, her work offers a personal exploration within the larger narrative of the immigration experience.
