Sculpture

The focus of my work is human beings and our fellow creatures. I make sculptures in clay and I also cast in bronze. This warm metal can capture the plasticity and emotion of my figurative forms. I create drawings from life, sometimes from memory and dream. A portrait drawing is an exchange, an interaction, and above all, an exercise in empathy. Underlying my art is the hope or belief in the human potential for intelligence and compassion and sometimes it reflects the tension between these and other human propensities.

The focus of my work is human beings and our fellow creatures. I study human and animal anatomy. I want to know and understand. Yet my work starts and develops by a feeling of a shape or an emotional reaction. At the core of my work is the hope or belief in the human potential for intelligence and compassion. It's as if in the struggle to resolve a form, the tension between these and other human propensities might be reconciled.
