Paula Rennis

I am Argentinean by nature New Yorker by heart, came to the US on a Fulbright Scholarship for a master’s at Pratt Institute and studied painting at The Art Students League of NY. My imagination runs full speed looking at fashion magazines searching for uniqueness, color and patterns, but only seeing outfits without personality. Nothing speaks to me, so I re-fashion the fashion magazines one page at a time. Once I find a pose that attracts me I create the outfits and accessories that I would love to see, adding some humor too, dressing them with my “textiles" of acrylic, paper and tape.

She created a new vocabulary for one's perception of the human form. This is a perception that abstracts the figure into the elements of color, light, shadow and movement in a superlative yet harmonious way. Not afraid to reframe the familiar, she seeks to challenge the viewer's perspective of the human form and its relationship to the known.
