Regina Perlin is an oil painter and Brooklyn native based in the Carroll Gardens/Gowanus area, working largely en plein air in her own neighborhood. She studied literature and art at New York University before training at the New York Studio School and the Art Students League, starting out as an abstract painter before shifting toward representational work. Her paintings focus on local storefronts, street scenes, and the Gowanus Canal, which she has described as drawn to for its light, industrial forms, and the juxtaposition of beauty and neglect, often incorporating elements like rusted trucks rather than avoiding signs of decay. Her work has been shown at a neighborhood framing shop and at the Brooklyn Workshop Gallery, and she frequently talks with passersby about the area's history while she paints.
