Rosemarie Oliveto, known as Rosie, is a Brooklyn-based artist and maker who grew up on Carroll Street in Gowanus and now works from the same studio home where she was raised, surrounded as a child by artists including her mother. Through her Etsy shop, Rosie's Pillow Shop, she makes pillows from sustainably sourced materials, alongside mosaics, paintings, and fiber art inspired by scenes from around New York City. She has taken part in Gowanus's Open Studios event and describes the neighborhood's artist community as collaborative rather than competitive, with makers organizing exhibitions and supporting one another's work even as rapid development in Gowanus has squeezed the space available for artists to establish themselves.
