Sandye Renz is a Brooklyn-based textile artist working in and around Gowanus who is known for The Pocket Project, a traveling exhibition, workshop, and performance in which she sews pockets onto participants' garments and belongings while trading stories about them. Working from suitcases packed with reclaimed fabric, pre-made pockets, and pouches, she frames the project around a lifelong habit: she has added pockets to sewing patterns since she first learned to sew, addressing the frequent lack of functional pockets in women's clothing. Her guiding motto, 'fill pockets not landfills,' reflects a broader practice built on reclaimed textiles and found materials. She has shown work in Brooklyn community exhibitions including 440 Gallery's juried Small Works Show and Atelier Canal's Summer Salons, and has participated in the Gowanus Art Parade.
