Deirdre Hughes is a Brooklyn-based professional designer, specializing in both hand-painted and digital illustrations and printed patterns for commercial use in home textiles. She holds a BFA in Graphic Design and has been a professional designer for over 15 years. Deirdre is currently pursuing a certificate in Botanical Illustration at the New York Botanical Gardens. In her own works, she uses mainly graphite, and is focusing on improving her watercolor, and silverpoint skills. Deirdre draws inspiration from nature and fantasy. She carries a lifelong love of magic and fairytales and tries to imbue a mysterious spirit into her artwork. After discovering the magical world of fungi during the pandemic, she began to collect specimens to study and draw. She enjoys trying to balance the tension between portraying scientific accuracy and emotional impact in her artwork.
