ApexArt Curatorial Program
Art galleryapexart's curatorial program is the exhibition engine of apexart, a nonprofit contemporary art space founded in Tribeca, Manhattan in 1994 by Steven Rand to open up curatorial opportunity beyond an insider few. Rather than an in-house curator choosing shows, apexart runs juried Open Call programs, including a New York City Open Call and an International Open Call, in which anonymous proposals are selected through a crowd-sourced vote by hundreds of jurors around the world; winners receive an exhibition budget and a stipend to realize their show at apexart's Church Street gallery. A parallel Global Fellowship brings curators and artists from other countries to New York for a residency. Admission to the resulting exhibitions is free.
