Better Half Animation Studio is the independent animation practice of Ryan Consbruck, an animator and director based in Brooklyn. Over roughly a decade Consbruck has written, directed, and animated short films, music videos, and the animated web series Murder in Spacetown, in a style he describes as centered on body horror and transformation — bodies, cities, and institutions breaking down and reforming — delivered in a tone closer to a Saturday-morning cartoon than a horror film. His short films use, in his words, weird little creatures and body horror to grapple with climate anxiety, and his work has screened at festivals including the Athens Digital Arts Festival, Shockfest Film Festival, VOID International Animation Film Festival, and Short Short Fest.
