Friends of City Reliquary Incorporated is the nonprofit civic organization behind the City Reliquary, a community museum in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The museum began in 2002 as a window display in founder Dave Herman's Williamsburg apartment, where passersby could push a button to hear his recorded commentary on the objects inside, before moving into a storefront on Metropolitan Avenue in 2006. Its permanent collection gathers eclectic New York City ephemera, including Statue of Liberty souvenirs, subway tokens, terracotta building fragments, and paint chips from an L train platform, chosen for the stories they tell about the city. The organization also runs rotating community-collection exhibits and annual public events such as the Panorama Challenge.
