Louis K. Meisel Gallery is a SoHo gallery opened by Louis K. Meisel, who established his first gallery on Madison Avenue in 1969 before relocating to Prince Street in SoHo in 1973, making it one of the neighborhood's longest-running galleries. Meisel is credited with coining the term "Photorealism" after curating an early exhibition of the movement's painters, and the gallery has represented original Photorealists such as Richard Estes, Audrey Flack, Chuck Close, and Charles Bell alongside a newer generation of realist painters and sculptors. Over five decades Meisel has curated more than 200 museum exhibitions and authored nearly two dozen books on Photorealism and related subjects. The gallery's program also includes vintage American pin-up illustration and paintings.
