The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) is a museum on Columbus Circle in Manhattan dedicated to contemporary craft, art, and design across all fields of creative practice. It was founded in 1956 by philanthropist Aileen Osborn Webb as the Museum of Contemporary Crafts, was renamed the American Craft Museum in 1979, took its current name in 2002 to reflect its increasingly interdisciplinary program, and relocated to its present building at 2 Columbus Circle, designed by Brad Cloepfil, in 2008. Its programming includes rotating exhibitions, the biannual Burke Prize recognizing studio-craft artists, open artist studios, and family and accessibility-focused tours.
