RxArt is a New York-based nonprofit founded by former gallerist Diane Brown, who conceived the organization after imagining a painting on the ceiling to calm herself during a hospital CT scan. Brown commissions leading contemporary artists to create site-specific, museum-quality installations for pediatric hospitals, matching each artist to a hospital's architecture and patient population in what she calls a form of 'stealth education' meant to spark children's lasting interest in art. The organization has produced more than 50 installations across over 35 hospitals in the United States and Canada, working with artists including Takashi Murakami, who designed a CT/PET scan suite at Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C., Derrick Adams, who created wallpaper for a pediatric emergency department in Harlem, and Jonas Wood, Jeff Koons, Ed Ruscha, and Nicolas Party, among others.
