Sculptors Alliance is a nonprofit collective that traces its roots to the early 1980s, when a group of student sculptors meeting at the Educational Alliance on the Lower East Side—mentored by artists including Chaim Gross and Licio Isolani—began exhibiting independently under the name Artists Alliance. Their first group show ran in fall 1980, and as membership grew to include artists from the Art Students League, Pratt Institute, and Brooklyn Technical High School, the group adopted its current name and sculptural focus. Now a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Manhattan, Sculptors Alliance supports sculpture through juried and members' exhibitions, educational programming, and community events, sustained by grants and individual donations, continuing more than four decades after its founding.
