Talwar Gallery

Talwar Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in Manhattan founded by Deepak Talwar, who began working with contemporary Indian artists in 1996 before opening the New York space in September 2001, with a second location in New Delhi following in 2007. The gallery focuses on artists from the Indian subcontinent and its diaspora, representing contemporary figures alongside the estates of twentieth-century artists including Nasreen Mohamedi and Rummana Hussain. In 2003 it presented the first solo exhibition in the United States of Mohamedi's work, marking her debut showing outside India. The gallery's guiding philosophy holds that artists are geographically located but their art is not, resisting categorization by geography, religion, culture, or race.
