Judd Foundation preserves the permanently installed living and working spaces, libraries, and archives of artist Donald Judd in New York's SoHo neighborhood and in Marfa, Texas. Its approach traces to a 1977 essay in which Judd argued that the space surrounding an artwork is crucial to it and that artists should retain control over how their work is presented and preserved; the foundation continued that mission after his death in 1994. A tax-exempt nonprofit, it maintains Judd's SoHo building and Marfa properties as he installed them and offers public tours, scholarly resources, and educational programming giving visitors and researchers access to his archives and his approach to permanent installation.
