The POINT Community Development Corporation is a nonprofit founded in 1993 by Bronx residents Maria Torres, Paul Lipson, Steven Sapp, and Mildred Ruiz-Sapp, who had worked together at a local settlement house and wanted to apply the arts to youth development and community revitalization in Hunts Point. Housed in a converted factory building, the organization runs programs across three areas -- youth development, arts and culture, and community development -- including a 125-seat black box theater, the Obie Award-winning Live From the Edge Theater. Its courtyard has hosted the murals of aerosol-art collective TATS CRU, which set up its studio at The Point in 1995 and has operated there ever since. The Point was also instrumental in creating Hunts Point Riverside Park.
