Andrew Boos is a Brooklyn-based artist and designer who hand-weaves kilims and tapestries on self-built looms, hand-dyeing his own wool to create the freer, painterly use of color that defines his work. He learned to weave in a Minneapolis yarn-store basement class and later deepened his technique through a residency at the Textile Arts Center in Brooklyn and study with a master dyer in Oaxaca, Mexico, focused on cochineal dyeing. His compositions, developed spontaneously on the loom rather than planned in advance, explore the interaction of light, color, and space, drawing on particle physics alongside the influence of James Turrell's installations, Josef Albers's color theory, and Medieval Islamic and Oaxacan weaving traditions. His work has been shown through the textile gallery Heirloom and is offered through 1stDibs.
