The grid is the underpinning for the forms I use, and of course is the most basic of structures. It reiterates the fact of the flat surface. But the geometry of the grid is softened by my process. It is handmade, and maybe a bit wobbly. It is not hard edged, but one that reflects the process of painting with evident brush marks and drips. I am influenced by quilts and old game-boards, artifacts that are also handmade, and have a defined underlying structure.
