Douglas Padgett is a painter based in Gowanus, Brooklyn, who works in oil on canvas and is listed in the Arts Gowanus artist directory. His practice centers on landscape painting, typically developed in the studio from a preconceived idea. In 2010 he took part in the Cape Cod Modern House Trust's artist residency at the Kugel/Gips House, a modernist house within the Cape Cod National Seashore, where he departed from his usual method to make small, quickly executed paintings and drawings directly from the surrounding landscape, working indoors and outdoors and at times from a kayak on the pond. He has described the resulting work as recording a place for personal reflection.
