Herry Koo

This head series began by exploring indigenous patterns from my early life, which serve as a reflection of my heritage. Over time, I introduced contrasting bluish textures to add depth and richness to these flat patterns. The characters in this series portray symbols from my daily life and the inspiring stories of others. With each new drawing, I challenge myself to incorporate new techniques, patterns, materials and mediums. My practice balances a meticulous approach to complex textures with spontaneous, playful geometries that focus on the simplicity of joy. This process is a direct reflection of my personality and way of life.

I work toward locating a harmony between the meticulous and the spontaneous. I combine playful shapes with careful and time consuming stippling techniques to bring symbolic ideas to life.
