Painting

My paintings are small still lifes, using oil paint on canvas or board. I especially like ordinary or found objects; cut flowers that are discarded because they are starting to turn brown, a fallen leaf. I’ve recently started collecting images from my travels to India, finding inspiration in things I might otherwise walk by… a crow on the street, a wall in Rajasthan. I spend time on the composition, keeping it minimal, and with dynamic angles and viewpoint. I’ve been a jewelry designer/maker for the past 15 years. Painting has been on my horizon for many years, and last year, I dove in. I enjoy experimenting with the alla prima as well as using grisaille and glazing techniques. My paintings aim to illuminate the beauty found in decaying, discarded, or overlooked subjects.
