Renda Writer is a self-taught "handwritten artist" originally from New York, now based in Miami, working across canvas and large-scale murals built from repeated phrases and mantras such as "I Am Love" and "Love is a risk. Do it anyway." A former spoken-word and slam poet who performed at venues including the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, the Bowery Poetry Club, and the Apollo Theatre, and won the 2007 Delray Beach Grand Slam Championship, he channels that background into text-based work built on the idea that words can "write things into existence." He pioneered the "Handwritten Mural" genre in October 2014 at Wynwood's N'Namdi Contemporary Gallery and has since painted more than 500 murals across eight countries, including an ongoing "World Peace Mural Tour," with commissioned work for brands including Puma, MTV/Viacom, W Hotels, and the ACLU.
