Collage / Other works on paperThomas McKean fell in love with the MetroCard over twenty years ago and never looked back. While working within the constraints of the limited MetroCard palette, McKean has found an ever-expanding MetroWorld where he explores landscapes, mosaics, portraits, abstracts, constructions, and dioramas – all of which keep pouring forth from this little object, not much bigger than two by three inches – making tangible memories of New York from an object which itself is now a memory: the MTA retired the MetroCard on 31 December, 2025.
