Art and Resistance Through Education
Art galleryArt and Resistance Through Education (ARTE) is a Brooklyn-based nonprofit that uses art, design, and technology to help young people respond to human rights issues in their own communities. Through a curriculum grounded in what the organization calls "artivism," students examine how issues such as mass incarceration and gender inequality affect their neighborhoods and translate that understanding into public art projects, including murals and interactive installations; its Global Women Heroes Project used community workshops, discussions, and a wall mural to address gender-based injustice. ARTE also trains participating youth to organize and lead others in their own communities. The organization is listed in New York City's Department of Cultural Affairs directory of cultural organizations.
