En Foco is a nonprofit photography organization founded in 1974 by a collective of Puerto Rican photographers in the Bronx who were seeking recognition and funding within the art world. The organization supports U.S.-based photographers of African, Asian, Latino, Native American, and Pacific Islander heritage, using photography to address social and economic issues affecting communities of color. Since 1985, En Foco has published the biannual magazine Nueva Luz, which has featured more than 300 artists across roughly seventy issues. Its Photography Fellowship Program, relaunched in 2016, awards juried grants with recipients showcased in a curated Nueva Luz issue and gallery exhibition, while its Media Arts Fund supports early-career New York City artists.
