FiveMyles is a nonprofit exhibition and performance space located in a converted garage in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. It was founded in 1999 by performance artist Hanne Tierney, who named the space after her son Myles, a filmmaker killed while covering the war in Sierra Leone, and opened it with a show of African photojournalism. The program favors experimental and underrepresented artists, with recurring attention to work from East Africa, the Caribbean, and Native American communities, presented through solo and group exhibitions built around place, identity, and community engagement. The space won an Obie Award in 2000 and has been reviewed by the New York Times, Village Voice, and Art in America.
