Marlene Yu Museum is located in Long Island City, Queens, and opened at its current site in October 2025 as the successor to an earlier museum the family ran in Shreveport, Louisiana, from 2013 until it closed during the pandemic in 2020. It was established by artist Marlene Tseng Yu's husband, James Yu, and daughter, Stephanie Lusk, who serves as museum director, alongside executive director Dan Yu. The museum preserves and presents Yu's nature-inspired, mural-scale abstract expressionist paintings, spanning more than sixty years and roughly 6,000 pieces shown in more than eighty solo exhibitions internationally. Born in Taiwan in 1937, Yu holds a BFA from National Taiwan Normal University and an MFA from the University of Colorado Boulder, and worked in SoHo, Manhattan for nearly four decades before opening a Long Island City studio in 2008, where she continues to paint at 88.
