Tibor de Nagy
Art galleryTibor de Nagy Gallery, now on Manhattan's Lower East Side, was founded in 1950 by Tibor de Nagy and John Bernard Myers, and became known for collaborations between visual artists and poets. It was the first publisher of books by New York School poets John Ashbery, Frank O'Hara, Kenneth Koch, and James Schuyler, and presented the first solo exhibitions of artists including Carl Andre, Helen Frankenthaler, and Larry Rivers. Andrew Arnot has owned the gallery since de Nagy's death in 1993. Today the gallery, an ADAA member, represents the estates of John Ashbery, Joe Brainard, and Jess, alongside a contemporary program that includes Richard Baker, Medrie MacPhee, Trevor Winkfield, and postwar second-generation New York School painters such as Jane Freilicher and Fairfield Porter.
