Collage / Other works on paper

My work is driven by the ‘freedom of play’-the process of constructing my own puzzles and seeking their most elegant solutions. This is an intuitive approach for creating and is my way of processing the world. Ideas for my work start with an image or part of an image that is exciting or intriguing. Turning it over in my mind considering its possibilities, or just living with it within my view in the studio for a while as ideas for how I will use it begin. As these ideas coalesce, the collaging process starts through layering and intentional proximity. New meanings for these parts and images are often generated as they are being worked. Striving for a compositional flow, I invite a dialogue that is not specific but implied. Coaxing the viewer into narratives that emerge through the interplay of form, color and the history within.

I have always been drawn to relationships, person to person or between a person and things. The emotional and mental space that makes up these exchanges is a fascinating part of the human experience. My current focus is trying to illustrate these connections of relationships by tapping into the ephemeral feel of a conversation, a passing communication/connection between people, places, and time. The inkjet transfer images are made by collaging transfers of inkjet prints to the paper's surface using a burnishing transfer process. The image comes together through a series of multiple layers, some have up to 40 layers. The 3-D sculptures use found images scanned and printed by myself and glued together on the wall unless otherwise noted.
