Tom Sachs is a sculptor born in 1966 in New York City who studied at the Architectural Association in London in 1987 and earned a BA from Bennington College in 1989. He is known for recreating icons of modern design, engineering, and consumer culture, including Le Corbusier's Unite d'Habitation, the Apollo Lunar Module, and a full-size McDonald's, using materials such as foamcore, plywood, duct tape, and bronze, with construction seams and fasteners deliberately left visible. His exhibitions include a Boombox retrospective at the Brooklyn Museum (2016), Space Program: Europa at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (2016), and Objects of Devotion at Sperone Westwater (2017). His work is held in the permanent collections of MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim, the Whitney, and NASA. Sachs lives and works in New York City.
