Amigos del Museo del Barrio
Art galleryAmigos del Museo del Barrio, Inc. is the nonprofit organization behind El Museo del Barrio, the East Harlem museum dedicated to Puerto Rican and Latin American art that grew out of community organizing for culturally representative education in New York City beginning in 1969. Registered as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) since 1972, it has served as the museum's founding legal and fundraising entity, supporting its mission to preserve, interpret, and promote the artistic heritage of Puerto Ricans and Latin Americans through exhibitions, public programs, publications, and educational activities. The museum it supports sits on Fifth Avenue's Museum Mile and holds a permanent collection of more than 6,500 objects spanning over 800 years, with particular depth in Puerto Rican and Caribbean art.
