Art galleryAsia Society is a nonprofit educational organization founded in 1956 by John D. Rockefeller 3rd to build mutual understanding between Asia and the United States, headquartered on Manhattan's Upper East Side in a building designed by Edward Larrabee Barnes. Its Asia Society Museum presents traditional, modern, and contemporary art of Asia and the Asian diaspora, with a permanent collection rooted in some 300 works donated by Rockefeller and his wife and, since 2007, a growing collection of contemporary Asian and Asian American art. Alongside exhibitions, the New York headquarters hosts performances, lectures, films, and policy programs, and the organization operates centers across the United States, Asia, and Europe.
