Pioneer Works is a nonprofit cultural center in Red Hook, Brooklyn, founded in 2012 by artist Dustin Yellin inside a brick building constructed in 1866 that originally housed the Pioneer Iron Works factory. Gabriel Florenz served as founding artistic director, and architect Sam Trimble led a renovation that added about 100 windows; the building reopened under its current name in 2013 after being rebuilt following flood damage from Hurricane Sandy. The organization's mission is to foster innovation across the visual and performing arts, music, and science. Its programs include exhibitions, performances, and festivals, an artist residency with wood- and metalworking shops and a photography studio, science and technology education classes, an in-house press, and the online magazine Broadcast.
