P.P.O.W is a contemporary art gallery founded in 1983 by Wendy Olsoff and Penny Pilkington, taking its name from their initials. It opened in Manhattan's East Village as part of the neighborhood's first wave of galleries, then relocated to Soho in 1988, Chelsea in 2002, and Tribeca in 2021, where it now operates two exhibition spaces. Since its founding, P.P.O.W has maintained a commitment to contemporary art across all media by pioneering and emerging artists whose work addresses gender, sexuality, race, and social inequality, often supporting figurative, political, and activist practices that other commercial galleries avoided. The gallery marked its 40th anniversary in 2023 and continues to mount contemporary and historical exhibitions, recently pairing a show by Daniel Correa Mejia with a group exhibition featuring Jimmy DeSana, Carolee Schneemann, and Martha Wilson.
