Kraushaar Galleries is a Manhattan gallery established in 1885 by C.W. Kraushaar, joined a year later by brother John, making it one of the longest-running dealerships in American art; it marked its 125th anniversary in 2010. The gallery grew from selling inexpensive prints into representing original work, and played a central role in promoting American urban realism through long relationships with members of The Eight, including George Luks, John Sloan, William Glackens, and Maurice Prendergast. It also brokered the 1931 sale of Charles Demuth's painting 'My Egypt' to the Whitney Museum of American Art. Leadership passed from John Kraushaar to his daughter Antoinette and later to Carole Pesner and Katherine Degn, continuing a program of modern and contemporary American art as a member of the Art Dealers Association of America.
